About Transportation

Our Transportation department works with our planning partners to develop the region's Long-Range (20-year) Transportation Plan (updated every four years) and establishment of a Short-Range (4-year) Transportation Improvement Program (TIP) (updated every two years). These activities range from data systems and modeling to special transportation studies to air quality activities. For more about our Transportation department, please select any of the links below. If you have a question about a specific service, document, or program, visit our contact us section.

Recent Activities

In 2016, SPC continued to implement the regional long range plan - Mapping the Future: The Southwestern PA Plan. Adopted in June of 2015, the long range plan is the mechanism for connecting the Regional Vision to an official, coordinated implementation program. A variety of planning tools are utilized by SPC to advance the long range plan, including the Transportation Improvement Program (TIP). The TIP addresses the most pressing needs identified in the long range plan with a prioritized list of roadway, bridge, bicycle, pedestrian, transit and other multimodal projects programmed for advancement over the next four years.  Both the TIP and the long range plan are developed under federally-mandated funding requirements and planning regulations.
