What:

Our Active Transportation Forum brings together local organizations and regional partners to talk about the ways that individuals and communities can foster and encourage active modes of transportation like walking and biking. Led by Leann Chaney, our Senior Active Transportation Planner, the main priority for our forum is to focus on programs, potential funding opportunities for these initiatives, and design guidelines. The Forum meets on a quarterly basis.

Note: This meeting is free and open to the public. Individuals that care about improving conditions for biking and walking modes of transportation are encouraged to join.

Overview of presenters and topics:

  • Anna Zivarts: Is a low-vision parent, non-driver, and author of When Driving Is Not an Option: Steering Away from Car Dependency (Island Press, 2024). Anna is the creator of the #WeekWithoutDriving challenge and advocates for the inclusion of non-drivers in transportation planning.   • Andy Davis (Indiana County): Andy will share insights from his European bike tour along EuroVelo routes.
  • Chris Blackwell (Penn Hills) and Brian Krul (TranSystems): Will provide an update on development of the VOPP Trail (Verona, Oakmont, Penn Hills, and Plum).
  • Kristin Saunders (Toole Design Group): Will provide an update on the multimodal network analysis task and other activities being completed for updating our regional Active Transportation Plan.
